Janco has developed a unique solution for combining rotary switches and potentiometers to save space and weight. The design approach is innovative because the potentiometer is an integral part of the rotary switch and visually appears as just another switch deck. The switch and potentiometer can be controlled independently via a concentric shaft arrangement. Prior to this design breakthrough, the only way to achieve this combination device was to piggyback a separate potentiometer onto the back of the rotary switch. This approach necessitated significant mounting hardware to hold the assembly together and some type of linkage between the two parts, impacting size, weight and potentiometer shaft play.
