Our History

       

1947
Janco is created from the joining of two companies, Raynor Co. and Juniper & Norris Company. Initial product offering consists of A/C electrical hardware - primarily bonding jumpers and external ammeter shunts.


1956
Ist commercial rotary selector switch for commercial aircraft is designed and manufactured (Lockheed, Electra series).


1959
1st 3-phase A/C heater is built (Convair 880). 1960 Janco moves from power switch concept to develop miniature series switch - the 1905M series is born.


1962
Rapid growth requires expansion into Ist big building. Ist QPL switch approval for 1905M series is received.


1965
Janco's continued success fuels 2nd major expansion.


1967
Ist rotary solenoid switch (2055 series) is developed.


1970
Janco attains dominance in commercial aircraft switch business.


1974
3100 series push button switch is introduced.


1972 to 1975
Janco goes international, signs Int'l Precision Products as European agent Develops push button/micro-miniature series.

1975
Janco Corp. is purchased by employees - Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOP) created.


1980 to 1990

Janco builds on its Gemini, Apollo, and LEM experience by winning key Space shuttle program. Expands significantly into European markets by winning projects, including the Concorde. Introduces low voltage line and pioneers complex assemblies.


1990 to Today

Janco, develops potentiometers, and advanced integrated switching systems.

Although in business with other products since 1947, Janco wins its entry into the commercial switch market in the mid-50s by winning a position on the Lockheed Electra Series turboprop airliner.

By the time the B747-200 enters service (Pan Am, 1970) Janco has grown to become a preferred supplier of rotary switches to major U.S. airframe manufacturers. By the time the B747-400 (pictured here) enters service in 1989, Janco has cemented its position as the technological leader by developing complete switching solutions that save both weight and space.

During the eighties, Janco and its European affiliates made significant gains in the European theatre. Not surprisingly, a significant European program to take advantage of Janco switches is the technologically advanced, supersonic Concorde.
